Amendments to the Family Code: Advocating Women's Right

Former Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar, popularly known “Misis Hanep Buhay,” vowed to push for a legislative measure to make amendments to our Family Code if  she wins a senate seat in the coming May elections.

“I am  not in favor of passing a divorce law. What I want is to propose changes to our Family Code to make it more adaptable to the problems of ordinary Filipino families,” said Villar who was a member of the House of Representatives for three terms or nine consecutive years.

Villar said she is running again, this time for senator, because she believes in the reform agenda of President Noynoy Aquino. She also wants to continue her advocacies, among them, the protection of women, children and the family, as the strongest institution of the country.

During her stint in the House as President of Lady Legislators , Villar had always worked for legislations upholding their rights and welfare. If she becomes senator, one particular focus of her amendments concern the case of unjust abandonment by a husband of his wife and his children or analogous cases.

Villar stressed simple mechanisms should be adopted to obligate the husband to  continue  support to his family. She said there should no longer be a need for a wife to file an action in court which entails a long and expensive litigation process just to get support for the family.

“This would definitely be an added burden to the woman who was abandoned by her husband. Imagine the anguish, mental and emotional, and the physical stress  that a wife  has to go through -- going to court while attending to the needs of their children, ” added Villar who was included by the University of the Philippines Los Baños it its “Exclusive List of Distinguished Women.”

Misis Villar  received from UPLB the unique hibis flower (gumamela) that bears her name in 2011, the ‘Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Cynthia A. Villar.’

The ‘Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Cynthia A. Villar’ has dark orange petals. The flower with a red eye and pinkish halo is the latest hibiscus hybrid to become part of the “Women in Public Service Series.”

Villar was recognized for her invaluable contributions to her home city and country as a legislator and leader, a successful entrepreneur, environmental advocate and exemplary public citizen.
Villar, who described herself as “the loving wife” of Senator Manny Villar, was a former House Speaker and Senate President, have been blessed with three children: Mark, Las Piñas congressman; Paolo, a businessman and Camille, host of Wowowillie.

Villar is running for senator under the Nacionalista Party with the Team PNoy Coalition.

Safety is for everyone and everything

True beauty icon Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco is a true advocate of safety in whatever activity
Who doesn’t know former Tarlac Governor Margarita "Tingting" Cojuangco? For the longest time, she was the eye candy of glossy mags, an undisputed icon of beauty here and abroad. This statuesque, elegant woman of substance was also a model, among other things, in her youth (as early as 16 years old) and was once adjudged one of the “World’s Most Beautiful Women.”

Apart from being a fashion and beauty icon, an entrepreneur, a respected political figure or wife to former congressman and now Philippine Sports Commission President, Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, “Tingting” is also an advocate of safety in all aspects. She’s been trained in the best educational systems to be security conscious, and her public safety advocacy has well become her very own lifestyle and yardstick in making important choices and recommendations.

Even the modern-day menace of criminals “riding in tandem” has been a subject of Dr. Margarita Cojuangco’s studies that seek to assess the capability of our law enforcement system in dealing with such menace, which shows how well substantiated and articulated she is. After all, she has a doctorate in Philippine History from the University of Sto. Tomas and two other doctoral degrees: Criminology from the Philippine College of Criminology and Officer Senior Executive Course from the Philippine Public Safety College. She earned her masteral degree in National Security Administration from the National Defense College and Philippine History from UST. Her collegiate degree in Philippine (Oriental) History was from Assumption.

Her  glowing and impeccable educational credentials are perfectly matched by grace and beauty that can only come from a buena-familia-bred colegiala whose kind of classic beauty is the kind that art immortalizes not just on canvass or camera but in real life. Thus, applying one’s best to preserve beauty, youthfulness and great curves is but a natural propensity. And with advances in body sculpting, skin rejuvenation, wellness lifestyle and the like in this modern-day world, there are loads of options to choose from.

But even in her strict beauty, health and wellness regimen, she always emphasizes on absolute safety. She won’t just walk into a beauty and wellness clinic and allow any doctor to touch her, nor take any pill or concoction. She lives what she preaches, and is very discriminating with life’s choices, especially when it comes to her very own body and household. Only expert hands can touch her face and body and only the best and proven-and-tested aesthetic medical breakthrough can be done to her.

“No experimentations on my face and body, please,” she declares. “How can I go for less than the tried and tested when I have been eating and breathing safety-enhancing solutions for decades now?”
For Tingting, this mindset of safety, just like beauty, comes from within. This is why she lauds The Zen Institute and Dr. Maryjane “MJ” Torres for always observing safety for her clients' benefit, and always aspires for perfection. Topmost is Zen’s being a center of only non-surgical, non-invasive aesthetic interventions, whether the holistic approach or individualized procedures that combines state-of-the-art devices and the expert hands of Dr. MJ,  who makes it a point she gets the latest on aesthetic solutions in her yearly travels.

When it comes to aesthetic procedures, she considers as imperatives trust and confidence, which should be on a high level before one could entrust the fate of her face and body to someone. “You need to trust and be confident of your doctor, especially for the face and body,” she expressed. With her discriminating taste and meticulous safety insurance procedures, Tingting has only good words for the Zen Institute and Dr. MJ Torres. Whatever treatments Zen advises, Tingting will surely trust and embrace them for her ageless beauty to shine a long, long time.

The Zen Institute is located at the Ground Floor, Bonifacio Technology Center, 31st Street corner 2nd Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City (856-2027), with branches at 69 Scout Rallos St., Tomas Morato, Quezon City (441-1712; 412-2528), or at the St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center, Maharlika Highway, Barangay 2, Sto. Tomas, Batangas ((+43) 778-4811). For more about The Zen Institute, visit

Nuffnang, Nokia & Abenson Bring You “Oz The Great and Powerful” Movie Screening

The awards season in Hollywood is about to end with the Oscar Awards being given to the best of the best a the end of the month.  But this does not mean that there are no more movies to watch out for.

One of the movies that is worth looking forward for is  Oz the Great and Powerful, a fantasy adventure film directed by Sam Raimi and stars James Franco, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis. The movie is inspired by L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and was captured magnificently by Raimi's creative lens. Well, that's based on the movie trailer that I saw.

Now here's the thing... Nuffnang Philippines, Abenson and Nokia is giving all my fellow bloogers a chance to watch the special screening of the movie for FREE. Click HERE for details.

Another bonus is the opportunity win a Nokia Lumia 620 or 820 from Abenson by just visiting any of the following stores: The New Glorieta, Trinoma and EDSA Shangri-La. I visited their store at Glorietta with my husband and I was amaze with the user-friendliness of the new Nokia Lumia series (620, 820 and 920)

Among the phone in the series, I am planning to buy Nokia 620 simply because at a reasonable price, I can have a Windows phone with a 1 GHz dual-core SnapDragon S4 processor, 5 MP autofocus camera and a range of vibrant colors to choose from.

Definitely Abenson is place to get a unit because not only that you can avail of the 0% installment plan, you can also received a lot of freebies with your purchases courtesy of the store ongoing promotions.

Now, I feel like buying one. But will try to see first if I'll win in their raffle. So, I hope lady luck will be with me. Below are some fun facts about Nokia and Abenson that are worth reading.

All-weather protection the family

Spring brings forth new life. Suddenly, buds appear and new branches sprout; bathing the landscape with fresh colors. Spring beckons the onslaught of new beginnings. Holding the promise of optimism, the season brings a lot of new meanings for future undertakings.

However, to the faint of smell, and those with olfactory and respiratory conditions, spring sends radar signs for the afflicted to take precautions.

It is in the springtime that pollens abound from the flurry of bee activity. It is also the time when dust loosens up from its hibernation in the cold, wet months. And with these come all the wheezing and the sneezing, plus all the noses running in every direction.

Allergic diseases are among the most common chronic disorders, affecting up to a third of the world’s population; and the incidence is increasing. They occur because of an abnormal sensitivity to substances normally harmless to most people. These substances are called allergens.

Symptoms of allergy develop when one is exposed to allergens. Attacks and/or surges can be triggered through exposure to house dust mites, animal dander, molds, pollens, grass, certain foods and drugs and even insects such as cockroaches, mosquitoes and bees – which, in a tropical country like ours – abound in droves.

Allergy can affect different parts of our body and can manifest in the form of allergic rhinitis or conjunctivitis, asthma, skin allergy (eczema), anaphylaxis, food allergy and allergy to insects.
Avoidance is perhaps the strongest antidote to any surge. As an adage aptly puts it, “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.” So knowing what triggers allergic conditions empowers those with allergies to be in constant guard. And one of the weapons they can use to eradicate indoor allergens is the revolutionary UVC device - the anti-allergy cleaner from Raycop.

Raycop’s UVC anti-allergy vacuum cleaners are able to kill 99 per cent of bacteria and kills almost 94 per cent of dust mites, and even the fearsome H1N1 influenza A virus that threatened the country a few years back.

The process of eliminating bacteria and other allergens employed by the vacuum cleaner is through its patented 3-step allergy care system. First, the vibrating pad shakes particles and dust mites away from mattresses. Pillows as well as other fabrics and linens are cleaned by vibrating a whopping 3,600 times per minute (twice that in some models), making sure that even the most stubborn dust mites are removed.
This is followed by the UVC sterilization lamp that kills bacteria to leave surfaces germ-free. Based on lamp technology courtesy of Philips and Sankyo, the lamp uses a highly efficient and effective 253.7 nanometer wavelength, the same germicidal ultraviolet wavelength used in hospitals, clinics and laboratories for almost seven decades now.

Finally, the device uses a cartridge filter that captures the larger particles and traps them so they cannot go back to the room. This contraption also helps extend the life of the micro allergy filter which is the one that traps the smaller particles to make sure they do not escape as well.
“We have the product that can help Filipinos clean the air, especially in their homes or even their offices. It has been our goal to make lives of people around the world become better through our award-winning appliances, and we want Filipinos to benefit from our products as well,” declared inventor Sung Jin Lee, president of Bukang Sems Co. Ltd.’s health and home appliances division.

This cleaning device is designed for use in homes, offices, hotels, lodges, or just about any structure where there are beds, linens, sofas, curtains, futons, cribs, beddings, pillows and other types of furnishings that use fabric.. These are where microscopic allergens, bacteria and the dreaded dust mites that attack both adults and children usually stay deep beneath the fabric surface, and cannot be removed by mere shaking, airing or sun drying.

The threat to the health and well-being to Filipino families and homes brought about by various allergens, including deadly dust mites, can create a host of respiratory illnesses if not given attention and care. Oftentimes, when allergic attacks occur, doctors don’t easily pinpoint dust mites as primary cause when, in most cases, they are.

“We know that dust mites, allergens and other types of bacteria are common problems in Filipino homes that affect family members with respiratory ailments. We get sick because the mites fecal waste are stuck in our beddings and furnishings and which the bacteria love; that in turn have droppings of their own. However, through Raycop’s UVC anti-allergy cleaner, they can now eliminate these bacteria faster, safer and more effectively so you won’t have to take your beddings out into the sun as you’ve done in the past,” explained Catherine Dy, who added that her company Zinven brings health and wellness devices into the country..
“Having the device in our homes reminds us to clean our indoors as often especially if you have asthmatic family members like me. It minimizes the cost of medication and/or hospitalization as well as the incidence of allergic attacks. Just vacuum over fabrics for 5 minutes to protect your loved ones from allergies now and in the future,” intimated the very amiable GM.

Distributed by Zinven Int’l Corp., the Raycop UVC anti-allergy vacuum cleaner is available at Rustan’s department stores, S & R, Landmark, Wilcon Builders Libis, and Abenson’s department stores. For more information about Raycop product lines and its outstanding features, visit their Web site
